VETERANS PARK BOOKINGS

There is no formal booking system for the general public’s use of Veterans Park.

If you wish to utilize an area of the park, we ENCOURAGE you to arrive early at the park to stake out the space you need and avoid negotiation with anyone from the general public using the park that day.

Please refer to the calendar above for any Town-sponsored or permitted events planned for the day.  If you plan to hold a private event in the park, we can list your event for information purposes only, but as noted above please plan to arrive early to stake out your space as there is no formal reservation system to physically reserve the pavilion or other areas of the park.  Please send any questions or inquiries to ILMVTRec@gmail.com.

RECREATION DEPARTMENT NEWSLETTER

July 1, 2024

The Isle La Motte Recreation Department would like to extend an invitation to residents and visitors to come out and enjoy our Veterans Park and the activities planned throughout the next few months. Whether it’s a pick-up game of basketball, volleyball, badminton, horseshoes, pickleball, playground or just a quiet picnic while admiring the beautiful view of Lake Champlain, we hope you’ll come out and enjoy the outdoors at our beautiful park. Basketballs, volleyball, soccer ball and horseshoes are available to use.  The balls are in a mesh bag by the south basketball hoop. Please put the balls back in the bag before you leave. The Rec. Dept. is planning to repair the soccer goals over the summer.

Pickleball continues to grow in the islands and across the country. IPA (Islands Pickleball Association) schedules sessions each morning using Playtime Scheduler. For more information and fees, visit their website at
https://champlainislandspickleball.org.  The courts are available afternoons and evenings for open play. Pickleballs are provided in the ball holder on the north basketball post. We just ask that you return the balls to the holder when you’re done. Please return the net on the basketball court to the far northeast side of the court with sandbags on each end so that the court is clear for basketball. The net on the parking lot can stay in place.  Any questions regarding pickleball, contact Ruth Casey at ruthcasey101@gmail.com

A Porta-let will be at the park from mid-May – October.

Trash and recycle bins are now at the park to help keep our park clean.

The Rec. Department is offering activities at Veterans Park on the Third Thursday of the month. Here are some of the activities planned. Please come and join us!

  • June 27, 5:30 p.m. – Backyard Birding with Bird Diva, Bridget Butler. A very informative evening learning about so many birds right in our own backyard. This was a very well attended event that was enjoyed by all.
  • July 14, 1:30 p.m. – Fossil Tour
  • July 18, 5:30 p.m. – Yoga/ Meditation. There will also be information on services provided by CIDER.
  • August 15, 5:30 p.m. – Bill Satink, singer songwriter from South Hero plays a mix of classic soft rock and originals.

All activities are weather dependent and most are by donation. Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

Please bring lawn chairs to programs or concerts. Announcements, reminders and cancelations will be posted on Front Porch Forum.

If you’d like to join the Recreation Department, we always welcome community involvement.  We meet the 2nd Saturday of the month, via zoom. Look for the announcement & agenda on Front Porch Forum.

Have a great summer!
