As we look forward to celebrating our nation’s semiquincentennial, the Town of Isle La Motte has committed to support the Vermont 250th Anniversary Commission’s pledge to coordinate observances and activities to commemorate major events that occurred between 1775 – 1777, including the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, and the founding of Vermont.

🇺🇸 Revolutionary War Patriots 🇺🇸
Posted on behalf of Andrew Whipple – Secretary, Vermont Society of Sons of the American Revolution
Did you know Vermont is celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Revolutionary War in 2026 and 2027?
Did you know Isle La Motte played a role in the Revolutionary War?
It is true, Vermont is celebrating the events connected with the Revolution in the coming years and Isle La Motte is also planning to celebrate the Revolution in their own way in 2026 and 2027.
I’m wondering if there is anyone on the Island that would be interested in helping me identify individuals buried on the Island who fought in the Revolutionary War? And perhaps identify local families connected to those Patriots.
I’m starting with the Bruley Road (South) Cemetery and then with your help I will take a look at the School Street (North) Cemetery. Once those cemeteries are reviewed, I’ll look at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
It is my hope to honor these Patriots in a small but meaningful way as the next few years unfold.
Any interest? Perhaps you know someone on the Island that is not on Facebook who might have an interest? Please email me at: secretaryvtssar@gmail.com.
Resources I am currently referencing include the Allen Stratton text and town cemetery records.
